We are all very concerned to be doing the right thing by our employees and are concerned about staying on the right side of the law. One of the ways that we can do both is by embracing the ISO 18001 standard.

Published in 2007 this standard describes an Occupational Health and Safety Management System and as a result many companies are now combining this with their existing Quality and /or Environmental Systems. The advantage of merging all of these systems is that they become easier to maintain and the certification fees tend to be lower than with three separate management systems.

That being said, if you have never embraced ISO 9001 or ISO 14001 but have always been concerned more with health and safety issues a stand alone ISO 18001 system could be ideal for you.
