The International Register of Certificated Auditors, (IRCA), have announced changes to their Internal Auditor Registration Scheme, which will add an additional day to the training requirement for Internal Auditor registration.
The previous requirement to have successfully completed a 2-day Internal Auditor course will remain but, in addition, a further days training on the ISO 9001:2000 Quality Management Systems Requirements will also now become mandatory.
The reasoning behind this move is that the new ISO 9001:2000 standard requires Internal Auditors to confirm compliance, not only with the organisations own systems and procedures, but also with the ISO 9001:2000 standard itself. A working knowledge of the new standard therefore becomes a pre-requisite for Internal Auditors of ISO 9001:2000 based systems.
The additional training will be offered in the form of a 1-day IRCA Certified ISO 9001:2000 Foundation Course which will be offered alongside the existing 2-day Internal Auditor Course.
The changes will only affect those Internal Auditors who wish to apply for registration under the Internal Auditor scheme, and successful completion of the current 2-day Internal Auditor course will continue to be sufficient to meet the basic ISO 9001:2000 requirement for training of Internal Auditors.
QMI Scotland Limited will continue to run an IRCA certified 2-day Internal Auditor course but will be adding the option of the 1-day IRCA Certified Foundation course to their 2003 programme.
