December 2007
Since 1999 companies have been able to measure their Health and Safety Management system against the requirements of OHSAS 18001:1999 which was an Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems Specification. A number of Accredited Third Party organisations offered certification of Safety Management Systems that had been developed to comply with the specification.
This year BSi have re-issued the document as a Standard BS OHSAS 18001:2007 Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems ? Requirements.
Key changes from the specification are:
-
A new requirement has been introduced for the consideration of the hierarchy as part of OH&S planning
-
Management of Change is now more explicitly addressed
-
A new clause on the "Evaluation of compliance" has been introduced
-
New requirements have been introduced for participation and consultation
-
New requirements have been introduced for the investigation of incidents
QMI Scotland has modified its foundation course and Auditor Training course materials to reflect the requirements of the new standard. Further information regarding course content and availability can be found on our training page.
