2009 saw the update to ISO 9004. This standard provides guidance to support the achievement of sustained success for any organization in the complex, demanding and ever-changing environment, by a quality management approach. The update has included a name change, so now BS EN ISO 9004:2009 is called "Managing for the sustained success of an organization ? A quality management approach." This standard encompasses many of the things which are being talked about on a regular basis within management circles and certainly within the systems fraternity, e.g. section 6.2 financial resources, 6.3.3 Involvement and motivation of people, 6.7, knowledge, information and technology, 6.8 Natural resources, and 8.3.5 benchmarking,
The concepts and ideas contained within this standard are all examples of excellent practice and while we are limited in space in this issue, each issue another aspect of this updated standard will be looked at in more depth.
