ISO 9001:2015 Internal Auditor Course (IRCA certified)

Description

This course is designed to provide students with a basic knowledge of the auditing skills required to plan and conduct Internal Audits within their own organisation and meet the requirements of the ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management Standard.

Aims

This course aims to provide students with the skills necessary to plan, conduct and execute internal audits being able to write effective audit reports and associated nonconformity reports.  Successful completion of the course will provide a basis for students who wish to go on to apply for IRCA registration as a QMS internal auditor.

Learning Objectives

Learning objectives describe what students will know and be able to do by the end of the course. On completion, successful students will be able to:

  • Explain the process-based quality management system model for ISO 9001, and the role of internal audit in the maintenance and improvement of quality management systems;
  • Explain the role and responsibilities of an auditor to plan, conduct, report and follow up an internal quality management system audit, in accordance with ISO 19011;
  • Plan, conduct, report and follow up an internal audit as part of a quality management system based on ISO 9001, and in accordance with ISO 19011.

Enabling Objectives

In order for students to achieve the overall learning objectives, they will need to acquire and develop specific knowledge. This is specified following as ‘enabling objectives’ and can be considered as steps to the achievement of the learning objectives stated previous. Explain the purpose and benefits of a quality management system

  • With reference to the Plan, Do, Check, Act cycle, explain the process-based quality management system model for ISO 9001, and the role of internal audit in the maintenance and improvement of quality management systems;
  • Explain the purpose of a quality management system and the business benefits of improving the effectiveness of a quality management system;
  • Explain the role and responsibilities of an auditor to plan, conduct, report and follow up an internal quality management system audit, in accordance with ISO 19011;
  • Describe the role and responsibilities of the auditor at each stage of the audit process
    plan, conduct, report and follow up an internal audit as part of a quality management system based on ISO 9001, and in accordance with ISO 19011 Skills (to be practised and tested through tasks and in real or simulated audit situations;

Notes

IRCA recommends all students have the following prior knowledge before attending this course:

Management systems

Understand the Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) cycle.

Quality management

Have a basic knowledge of the concepts of quality management and the relationship between quality management and customer satisfaction.  Understand commonly used quality management terms and definitions, as defined in ISO 9000.

ISO 9001

Have an understanding of the requirements of ISO 9001, which may be gained by completing an IRCA-certified QMS Foundation training course or equivalent.

A pre-course assignment on the above subjects will be sent to students to complete prior to attending the course.

All QMI courses involve a high level of student participation. A full set of student notes will be provided and a Certificate of Successful Completion will be awarded to students achieving the course assessment criteria.
